Inspired by true events, and banned in its native Singapore, Solos explores the doomed relationship between a teacher and his student and its effect on the younger man’s lonely mother. The teacher realizes that the relationship has grown stagnant, but struggles to express his feelings to the student, who starts seeking new sexual adventures. The student’s mother fears that her son will never return to her. Unable to accept his sexuality, she finds herself escaping her loneliness through various distractions.
